I decided to start selling Scentsy to make money from home.  It has been great, and I have had great success as a Scentsy consultant.  I wanted a business I could fit in to my life as a stay at home mom of (then) three kids and bring in extra money for our family.  

My husband had just graduated from Graduate School and started his own business, but it's a slow start from the ground up.  Then the recession of 2008 hit, and his new business was hit hard.

I needed to either get a job, or find something I could work from home to bring in money for our family.

Start a Scentsy Business with low risk

I joined Scentsy on February 21, 2008 and received the Scentsy starter kit for $99. My goal was to make my money back in that first month.  That way in case I hated it, or wasn't any good at Direct Sales, I would have no strings attached.  That way, I could walk away and not have lost anything but a bit of my time, but at no risk to my family.  

I booked parties with everyone I could think of, and even traveled hours away to have a party with my sister.  I was successful with my goal, and make my initial Starter Kit investment back, and even a little more in my first month being a Scentsy consultant.  

Since then, I've continued to grow my business for these 15 years, and have reached the very top level of Scentsy SuperStar Director.  I am so glad I was brave enough to join back then!

Work at Home Business Opportunity

A lot of success is possible with my Scentsy business because I am able to build my business around my own schedule.  I can work on my business when the kids are at school, the baby is napping, or even early morning or late at night when they are sleeping.  

I love that I am able to build my Scentsy business and have success, but not have to sacrifice my family time or being home with my kids while I earn extra income from home.  Scentsy really is the perfect work at home business opportunity.

How to Have Success with Scentsy

I made the commitment to make my Scentsy Business work no matter what, and did everything I could think of to have success with my Scentsy business.  

I have done countless home parties, big fair and show booths, sponsored many Scentsy fundraisers to help support other organizations. 

In my 15 years, I have mailed a ton of basket (catalog) parties, and held open houses for friends and neighbors in my home. 

Another way I worked is with businesses.  Together we set them up to give Scentsy for their corporate gifting programs. 

My favorite way I have learned to grow my business is that I even learned how to make and update this Scentsy website to expand my reach.

My many experiences allow me to really help the consultants on my team and offer strategies and tips for success, as well as offer support and perspective.  I am there for my team every day and spend a lot of time and effort to ensure their Scentsy success with their Scentsy business.

Wickless Candles

I talk about Scentsy candles almost every day and recently I started just reflecting on the wickless candle industry.  It's pretty amazing how far wickless candles have come over the last few years.  The traditional candle is what most people had in their houses and not only did they not have wickless candles but they didn't probably had never seen or heard of anything different.  And now, Scentsy itself is well known all over the world and other companies making wickless candles have been born.  So most people have at least heard of if not own some type of wickless candle variation.

Orville Thompson hadn't even seen a wickless candle until March 2004 when he  was a vendor at a sales show in Salt Lake City and happened to be located near a booth where some women were selling decorative warmers designed to melt scented wax with the heat of a light bulb instead of a wick and flame.  It is through this experience that led him and his wife Heidi to purchase the then tiny company called Scentsy.  Think about that...that was only 2004!

I find it interesting how a concept that has been around since 200 BC in China and in Europe around 400 AD has evolved over the past 8 years.  Now, we have just about every scent you can imagine and there are new decorative warmers available every month.  Makes me excited about the future of Scentsy and what their candles may look like in another 8 years.

One of the great things about Scentsy is their desire to provide help to those in need.  They are offering a "Special Olympics" Charitable Cause Warmer called the "Champion".  Scentsy will donate $8 from every sale of these warmers to Special Olympics International.  They will do this from now until Feb 28, 2013.  It's a great way to help out a very special event.
